Clayton holding his letter from the President.
On Friday, our eldest son, Clayton, received a package in the mail. The manilla envelope was from the White House. He was taken aback by this, and had no idea how the White House knew about him and why in the world he would receive a letter from our nation’s capital. When he opened the package, he found a letter from President Obama, congratulating him on his high school graduation. Needless to say, Clay was thrilled to have a signed letter from our nation’s leader. He said that he plans on framing it for his dorm room.
Later that day, Dwight tweeted: “I used to talk (argue) politics, but the Lord impressed upon me that HE places leaders in power, and I was told to pray for them (1 Tim. 2:1-2).” I think this is something many Christians have forgotten. Whether you voted for Obama or not; whether you agree or disagree with his policies; he is our Commander-In-Chief in the White House, and he would not be there if God had not put him there. Remember, God always sees the big picture, and while we might not like things that happen in life, we have to remember that He is sovereign, and He is always in control. Many waste their time murmuring and complaining about presidents and leaders they like and don’t like, but, as Christians, we need to stop acting like the world and spend our time praying instead. We are told to intercede on our leaders’ behalf. We should also remember that our personal feelings have nothing to do with showing respect to those God has placed in authority over us. How blessed we are to live in a country where we can freely talk about our government! Many people in other parts of the world would face imprisonment, loss of income, and even death to do the same.
“Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.” 1 Timothy 2:1-2
God bless,
Rebecca
