Stepping Out

Tomorrow is the big day. Rebecca and I will move our eldest son, Clayton, into his college dorm at Southeastern University. It’s a bittersweet feeling. On one hand,we are thrilled that Clayton is serving the Lord 100%; excited he is pursuing ministry with a degree in Youth and Family Ministries at my alma mater; elated that he is beginning a new chapter in his life. On the other hand, though, we realize that this is the beginning of big changes in our family. We know it’s a natural process in life, but we’ll miss him. Hey, he’s our firstborn, so it’s a pretty big deal.

For today’s blog post, I asked Clay to write a short blog post about the big changes on the horizon for him. This is what he gave me…

Clay is nearly done packing!

To be honest, stepping into the adult world is a bit sketchy. Not having your parents to give you advice, having to make decisions on your own: all these things seem a little overwhelming and intimidating at first glance. But there is definitely a sense of excitement that goes along with the idea of “leaving the nest.” It’s hard to believe that come this weekend, I’ll be in a dorm room needing to make my own decisions.

This summer has been an adventure from the first day. My family made the decision to move to Florida on a dime—literally a few months before my high school graduation. Being in a completely different state where you know nobody—it’s thrilling. It’s almost like starting fresh.

I’m very excited to see what going to a Christian University will be like. Knowing that I’ll be surrounded by other people who share the same beliefs I have and who will encourage me—it’s a great feeling. And whatever God has in store for me, and whatever challenges He places in front of me, I’m ready to tackle them.

Fuel the Fire!

“For ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ But how can they call on Him to save them unless they believe in Him? And how can they believe in Him if they have never heard about Him? And how can they hear about Him unless someone tells them?” – Romans 10:13-14
